Hone Your Strengths!

07/28/03

Robert J. Kriegel knows the power of personal focus: "Hone your strengths and get partners to do the rest. Joe DiMaggio never bunted."

As we look to the future, many find themselves asking, "What do I need to do to thrive in the future?" It's the wrong question. Where is your passion? Where are your strengths? How do I transform them into the mosaic of needs that will be involved in inventing the future? Don't settle for any job that is needed when you can find a sense of purpose by contributing where you love using your gifts. If companies must right size and right skill; you and your team better get busy retooling and refocusing to be part of the answer. Change can be experienced as a threat or an opportunity, but if you are good at something organizations need, you have nothing to fear. When you take the right skills, the right attitude and add an ability to partner with others, you are playing a winning hand in the great game of business for years to come. Life is too short to stay in jobs you can't stand. Never settle for a job when, with initiative, you can do a little soaring on the wings of change!

A PAULSON QUOTE OF THE WEEK

"Life is too short to stay in jobs you can't stand. Never settle for a job when, with initiative, you can do a little soaring on the wings of change!" --Terry Paulson, Ph.D.

MONDAY'S MIRTHFUL MOMENT

Today's mirthful moment comes from Laura McQuay via Robert Tucker via Marie Collins. In case you needed further proof that the human race is doomed through stupidity, here are some actual label instructions on consumer goods:

On a Sears hairdryer: Do not use while sleeping. (and that's the only time I have to work on my hair).

On a bar of Dial soap: "Directions: Use like regular soap." (and that would be how???....)

On Marks & Spencer Bread Pudding:"Product will be hot after heating." (...and you thought????...)

On packaging for a Rowenta iron: "Do not iron clothes on body." (but wouldn't this save me more time)?

On Boot's Children Cough Medicine:"Do not drive a car or operate machinery after taking this medication." (We could do a lot to reduce the rate of construction accidents if we could just get those 5-year-olds with head-colds off those forklifts.)

On Nytol Sleep Aid: "Warning: May cause drowsiness." (and...I'm taking this because???....)

When you keep your eyes open for mirth, you just may find it! Hope this kicks off your morning and helps get your mood adjusted for the week. Now, get busy MAKING CHANGE WORK and have some fun along the way!...
