Deep Gladness Meets Deep Need!
07/27/04
Frederick Buechner said it simply, "Vocation is the place where your deep gladness meets the world's deep need."
What a simple and stirring truth about finding our vocational calling--a deep gladness filling a deep need! In this ezine, it is far too easy to get stuck talking about tactics and change strategies without taking time to think about one's calling and the personal satisfaction that can be found in making a real difference. We find ourselves settling by filling a role instead of soaring with a sense of calling. Finding that right fit isn't necessarily involved in just doing what you are good at--it is more important to find a gift that when used helps your customer and you find satisfaction. As I go through life, what delivers a deep gladness can also change. Now, there is more satisfaction in mentoring others and in leaving a legacy that provides footprints for others to follow.
Have you felt any deep gladness lately? You may want to consider this question many times on your life's journey to explore whether a career course correction is needed. Opening doors closes other doors; choices may mean letting go of things you once enjoyed to be free to take on new opportunities. In the summer months, there is often time for reflection. Encourage yourself and others to take time to find that intersection between deep gladness and deep need.
